Air-assisted assistance makes significant differences
We wanted to find out what Swedish healthcare professionals thought about the HoverMatt SPU air-assisted aid for supine transfers.
Supine transfers represent a significant challenge in healthcare and are the most common cause of joint and muscle pain in the back and shoulders among healthcare workers. Managing supine transfers of heavier patients usually requires 4-6 carers, further complicating the care situation. According to a study at Karlskoga Hospital from 2023, as many as 50% of hip fracture patients rated 6-10 in pain on the VAS scale when transferred with traditional sliding boards.
When we introduced the HoverMatt SPU air-assisted transfer mattress in Sweden, we wanted to find out what Swedish healthcare professionals thought of an air-assisted aid for supine transfers. We conducted tests at ten different hospitals where HoverMatt SPU was used for supine transfers in various patient groups, giving staff the opportunity to evaluate the results.
After the staff responded to the ergonomics and patient experience evaluation, the results showed that transfers with HoverMatt SPU can be performed with fewer carers while promoting ergonomics and reducing patient-perceived pain. In the study at Karlskoga Hospital, 50% of the patients with hip fractures scored 0 in pain on the VAS scale when transferred with HoverMatt.
