Etac's 4th anniversary donation
Paralife - Creating job opportunities for young adults with functional diversity while contributing to parasports
The recipient of our fourth donation is Paralife, a non-profit organisation that helps young people into the labour market and works for increased resources to parasports. Their sports café provides an inclusive meeting place where everyone who works has some level of disability.
Paralife’s vision is an accessible society where children and young people with functional diversity have the same opportunities to pursue their dreams of sports, work and community as everyone else. Driven by this, they operate a sports café in Nacka, Sweden, providing a meeting place where people of all abilities can connect over food, games and training.
Everyone in the staff has a physical or cognitive impairment, and for many of them it is their first “real” job where they can gain valuable work experience and skills in the service industry. The facility is fully accessible and includes height-adjustable work equipment to enable access for employees who use wheelchairs. The location also offers a training room and the opportunity to host conferences.
The sports theme is founded in Paralife’s belief that sports are a powerful tool for development, self-confidence and a sense of belonging for young people. As such, all surplus goes to parasports, aimed at promoting equal pay and opportunities for para-athletes. In line with this, the café showcases inspiring artwork of parasport role models throughout the premises.
We are very pleased to make our fourth donation to this inspiring organisation. They lead the way in showing how the job market can become more accessible, and that society can benefit from the diversity of people with different abilities. We wish Paralife the best of luck in the future, and hope their initiative can encourage more employers to follow in their footsteps!
